Production Design
Married at First Fleet follows a modern day 18th century couple – individuals matched together according to their common interests, attractiveness and lack of diseases.
For this short film, I set dressed and designed this 1880s world within the authentic landscape of semi-rural Sydney, Australia. Every set dressing choice, from the carriages to the smallest details, reinforced the satirical tone while maintaining the visual integrity of the 1780s era. The challenge was honoring the park's existing history (established in 1900) while layering in our own production design elements. This meant working collaboratively with what the location offered, sourcing pieces that felt period-appropriate, and using natural geography to frame our scenes. The result was a living, breathing world that grounded the modern satirical concept in a convincing historical setting.
